Three-dimensional geometry and dust/gas ratios in massive star-forming regions over the entire LMC as revealed by the IRSF/SIRIUS survey

Abstract We derive the entire dust extinction (AV) map for Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) estimated from color excess at near-infrared wavelengths. Using percentile method we recently adopted to evaluate AV distribution along line of sight, three-dimensional (3D) maps three massive star-forming regions N44, N79, and N11 based on IRSF/SIRIUS point source catalog. The 3D are compared with hydrogen column densities N(H) different velocity components where one is LMC disk other two velocities lower than velocity. As a result, obtain geometry suggesting that gas collision ongoing between components. also find differences in timing regions, which indicates occurred later 30 Doradus. In addition, difference factor AV/N(H) found while significant not N79 N11. From each region, suggest star formation N44 was induced by an external trigger tidal interaction Small Cloud, likely have been internal triggers such as converging galactic spiral arm expansion supershell, although possibility cannot be ruled out.
